Cloud computing has become an IT staple in a number of ways, allowing businesses of all sizes to reduce costs, improve employee collaboration and replace aging infrastructures. The mobile revolution has also been taking place alongside the advancement of cloud-based environments, opening new doors to how mobile applications are developed.
A Forbes report by Reuven Cohen explained that a lot has changed in the past two decades, thanks in large part to cloud technologies. Today, "literally anyone with almost no technical capabilities can crank out a web or mobile app with ease," he wrote.
Users who want to create their own mobile applications based on the world's most popular systems have a number of choices at their disposal. Cohen noted that there are hundreds of such solutions available, whether someone is interested in Android, iOS, Windows Phone or other platforms.
The use of both mobile devices like smartphones and tablets along with cloud computing is expected to take mobile application development to new heights. A Visiongain study said that the mobile cloud market was worth $77 billion in 2011 and, by 2016, is projected to reach $240 billion.
By this time, Visiongain said overall mobile cloud revenue will total $45 billion, increasing at a compound annual growth rate of 55 percent beginning in 2011. The evolution of cloud-based applications, advancement of LTE connectivity and further adoption of mobile devices will all contribute to this trend.
Looking ahead, Visiongain said that more open standards will also make it even easier for developers to create cloud-based applications that can be accessed using a variety of smartphone devices.
As cloud computing becomes a more well-known technology throughout the corporate and public sectors, the use of such technology to create mobile applications will likely see a surge.
