Have you heard of Scott? Chances are that if you are reading this blog, you’ve probably read something he has written. If you are a developer, you’ve probably even used some of his code. So, think about it again - have you heard of Scott? You probably have, but maybe you just didn’t realize it. With that being said, allow me to properly introduce him. I think he is a pretty special guy.
Scott Hanselman describes himself as a programmer, teacher, and speaker. Let me first start with the easy stuff - Scott the programmer.
Scott works at Microsoft, and is part of the Web Platform team. He is a web developer, working in open source on ASP.NET and the Azure Cloud. The Microsoft Web Platform is a set of tools, servers, and technologies which includes things like ASP.NET, IIS, SQL Server, and Visual Studio. So as you can see, Scott is pretty much at the center of Microsoft’s work on the web. Scott also codes in his spare time and has a number of useful projects in the works at any given moment. Check out his Github page for more on those.
Onto Scott’s work as a teacher. This bit is a little more complicated, being that Scott is a very busy man! First things first, you can have a look at his blog, which you can find here. Topics of his posts vary from smart watches, to closed captioning for the hard of hearing, to common web development mistakes. It’s a wealth of fascinating information.
Finally, let’s have a look at the three podcasts that Scott is a part of. First is ‘Hanselminutes’ which is described as ‘fresh air’ for developers. Next up is ‘The Developers Life’, which he co-authors with Rob Conery. This one aims to look at some of the real life issues of developers, such as ‘What is it like to get fired?’ ‘Ratchet and the Geek’, is Scott’s third podcast, one that co-authors with Luvvie Ajayi. This podcast offers a more general look at gadgets, social media, and current events..
If that wasn’t impressive enough, Scott has also written some books! If you are an ASP.NET developer, then you probably have some of them on your shelf (if not, you really should).
Finally, we have Scott the speaker (Seriously, does this man sleep?!) He often speaks for Microsoft at developer events, but he also does many sessions as himself. Check out this page on his blog for a list of his engagements. He also has a Lanyrd page where you can see his social engagements.
